Kris, I think you probably got the ribz right--at least the photo looks right. They do come out a little spongy, a texture some people like and others don't. I'm in the "anything covered in BBQ sauce tastes great" camp myself, but if I'm going to keep working on the recipe to try for a firmer texture.

I love farmers markets. Sadly I'll be too busy tomorrow to visit ours. :( I'll be on the lookout for galic scapes. How do you like your yogurt maker. How does it work and what do you use for ingredients? Soy milk and cultures?

How cool that it's Farmers Market time for you. i just love Portland, btw, and it's so wicked cool that you are so close to those markets and how totally great as well that yer gonna have one in your 'hood there!! YAY!

Garlic scapes, 'eh? Hmmmmm... That's new to me. i do love me some fava beans and i dunno if the picture is jut not tellin' it like it was but the BBQ seitan looks tremendous. And, i totally am with you on the BBQ sauce makes everything better!!! Yes, i even have been known to dunk popcorn (PARMA!?!?! Gotta check that out!) in BBQ sauce!

Kris, i love this line:
Jim, the budding food critic, said it had a “mild, but distinct flavor”.

Your weekend b'fast of the banana PB 'cakes w/maple syrup and banana slices is heaven to me... i might want some carob chips tho, in case you decide to move next door to me someday and want to be prepared! :o)

The dinner of multigrain (!?!?!?!) tempeh w/the snap peas & more over the brown basmati rice is right up my proverbial alley. Lookin' good as ALWAYS!!!

It's hard to believe the barbecue didn't taste as good as it looks. I'm going to look for garlic scapes at my farmers market this weekend. I never eat breakfast so I always miss out on yummy pancakes!

I love popcorn. I take it in a big bag to work for munchies on nights when we're not busy. (Or even when we are.) I made some ribz the other night too. Summer just isn't complete without BBQ ribz.

Mmmmm, your breakfast looks delicious. I think I'm going to make that for dessert tonight. I've never tried garlic scapes or fava beans. I'm interested in looking for them though. Hopefully I'll be able to get to the farmer's market here soon and find some.

If you want a super easy way to pop popcorn, put 1/4 cup or so in a brown paper lunch bag. Fold over the top really tight a couple of times (you can even put a staple in it if you want but I don't). Pop in microwave for 1-3 minutes depending on your microwave. You want to take it out when there's about 3 seconds between each pop. I swear, it's so easy. I learned about it from Alton Brown and now I'll never buy pre-packaged popcorn again.
