Thanks to everyone for your support. I am truly touched by all of your kind words. I will do another food post or two before the year end, so the party’s not over quite yet!
And in the tradition of the gift giving, I’m going to do a giveaway! I’m not telling what or how many, but a couple of folks will get a nice little package to help chase away the post-holiday blues. To enter into this random drawing just leave a comment with your favorite holiday treat. Again, it’s random, but the topic is just to make it a little interesting. I know this is a crazy busy time of year, but I’ll close this on Christmas Eve.
Happy commenting!

okay, curiousity piqued! my favourite holiday treat… pumpkin pie (or stuffing! I don’t know if I can choose between them. ^^;)
Comment by Liz² December 20, 2007 @ 1:09 amI love pumpkin pie.
Comment by Lesha December 20, 2007 @ 4:02 amI *love* egg nog. This is my first vegan holiday season, and I’ve been very happy to find Soy Nog to get my noggy-fix.
Comment by Jamie December 20, 2007 @ 5:54 amHard to answer! My top 5:
Cream puffs (too bad I can get a decent vegan recipie for them)
Mint Hot Chocolate
Pumkin Custard
Truffles
Field Roast apple sausage, potatoe and onion french tart!
These are few of my favorite things!
Comment by Liudwih December 20, 2007 @ 6:36 amMy favorite holiday treat is fudge…. need to get home and make a batch soon. How sweet of you to do a giveaway!
Have a wonderful holiday!
Comment by Vegan_Noodle December 20, 2007 @ 7:36 amMy favorite holiday treat? Peanut brittle and chocolate covered toffee. Both vegan, of course!
Comment by Cindy December 20, 2007 @ 8:54 amFudge. With lots of walnuts, or with lots of peanut butter. Mmmmmmm. I don’t think I could ever get enough fudge.
Or pumpkin pie! I LOVE pumpkin pie!
Comment by Jenny December 20, 2007 @ 9:15 amMy favourite holiday treat has been and always will be snowball cookies. My nana’s been making them since I was an itty bitty girl. They have to have walnuts in them, of course, as they are definitely my favourite nut. What’s not to love about a sweet, crunchy, satisfying cookie that leaves sugary white powder around your mouth?
Have a great holiday.
Comment by Suzie December 20, 2007 @ 9:53 amHmmm… I would have to say Kolackies! But that might just be my Bohunk background talking
I also love fudge that melts in your mouth and peanut brittle. I especially like making the peanut brittle and waiting for it to boil to the right temperature… and how it forms those long strings that harden right up. Oh, I’ve burned my mouth a plenty of times while making peanut brittle!
Comment by Jennifer December 20, 2007 @ 10:30 ammine would be stuffing too! and ohhh mushroom gravy!
Comment by madeinalaska December 20, 2007 @ 11:05 amEnglish toffee… mmm. that delicious stuff with chocolate and mac nuts, oh yes.
Comment by Gia M December 20, 2007 @ 11:27 amGingerbread people! My mom and I always made and decorated them to give as gifts. They were never very pretty, but always tasty.
Comment by Lauren D. December 20, 2007 @ 1:31 pmMy favorite holiday treat is definitely gingerbread! I love it
Comment by Paulina December 20, 2007 @ 2:31 pmmy mom’s homemade brioche and my mother-in-law’s homemade santa face cookies. i am working on veganizing both this year!
Comment by kate December 20, 2007 @ 3:03 pmCandy Cane Joe Joe’s!
Comment by Kristin December 20, 2007 @ 3:31 pmmy favorite holiday treats are oranges (hey, I’m in Texas–we have oranges year-round) and peppermint fudge. I have a sweet tooth…
Comment by sarah December 20, 2007 @ 5:13 pmI’m going to try peppermint bark this year. The best part of the year is all the pairing of mint and chocolate…
These yeast rolls that my mom makes only around the holidays. This year she made a vegan version for me, and they were awesome.
Comment by Carrie December 20, 2007 @ 5:29 pmHmmm…I don’t know if this qualifies as a “treat,” but artichokes are seriously my favorite food (well, that and watermelon). Even though they are out of season (even more of a treat!), my family often has artichokes for dinner on Christmas or Christmas Eve. They are just soooo good!
In more of a “treat” category, I really like biscotti and just about any baked good with pumpkin/squash in it–yum!
You and your blogg will be missed! I hope you have a happy holiday, and that you get a chance to enjoy your favorite holiday treats!
Courtney
Comment by Courtney December 20, 2007 @ 5:47 pmI’m so glad to see you still posting for at least a little while – I cannot tell you enough how much I am going to miss this blog!!
Now onto answering your question – my favorite holiday treat is gingerbread with maple-butter. so rich, so flavorful, so festive for the holiday season (or anytime of year!)
Comment by VeggieGirl December 20, 2007 @ 6:46 pmCherry winks! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cherry-Winks/Detail.aspx
Comment by ellie December 20, 2007 @ 8:45 pmBefore I was vegan I loved peanut butter cookies with peanut butter cups in them. This year I’m going to make mini peanut butter cups from scratch and put them into the cookies. Peanut Butter + Chocolate = Yum!
Comment by Rachel December 20, 2007 @ 10:48 pmPumpkin Spice Soy Lattes and green bean casserole… not eaten together, of course
Comment by julieannef December 20, 2007 @ 10:58 pmmy favorite one is arroz con pasas(sweet rice pudding with raisins). this is a clasic deseert around here.
Comment by johanna3 December 21, 2007 @ 6:52 amMy latest favorite is a soy gingerbread latte. I wish I had one right now!
Comment by Melissa December 21, 2007 @ 7:38 amMy favorite holiday treat is *anything* and *everything* pumpkin!
Comment by Allison December 21, 2007 @ 12:46 pmPIES PIES PIES!!! Berry or pumpkin, I’m not picky… as long as there’s no dairy in it cause I’d die.. and that wouldn’t make for a good holiday!
Comment by Tessa December 21, 2007 @ 1:40 pmMy favorite holiday treat is ‘kerststol’: a sweet bread with dried fruits, nuts and almond paste inside that one eats for breakfast at Christmas here in the Netherlands.
Comment by Yvonne December 21, 2007 @ 1:52 pmhhhmmmmmmmm…my favorite holiday treat? i have 2 that are super dandy yummy good: buckeye balls(chocolate covered peanut butter balls, named after the ohio state tree, the buckeye); and raspberry strippers (a lovely cookie with jam and lemony icing that my boyfriend ate all up already and it isn’t even the official “holiday” yet. shame on him). yay for tasty vegan cookies!!!!!!!
Comment by amy December 21, 2007 @ 4:49 pmMy favorite holiday treat would be these Italian date cookies my grandfather used to make. (He’s since past away.) They were painstakingly handmade each year, and my father and I would fight for the first one. Other family members have made them, but they just aren’t the same!
Comment by Samantha December 21, 2007 @ 6:51 pmYou probably mean food.. so I’m cheating, but my favorite holiday treat is being with my family! I love my siblings and we get along ridiculously well (honestly.. it confuses people) but all four of us are in college now, and Christmas is the only holiday when we’re allll back home with the ‘rents. I make sure we get a family photo every time we’re together. It’s the best thing!
Comment by Tania December 22, 2007 @ 6:37 amA bit traditional I know, but the first bite of a Fruit Mince Pie is the most christmassy thing I know.
Comment by Carla December 22, 2007 @ 11:59 amI love Magic Cookie Bars
A treat my mom mad on special occasions, like the holidays
Thanks for the mysterious contest!
Comment by Anastasia December 22, 2007 @ 7:01 pmMy favorite holiday treat would have to be Starbucks Egg Nog Latte…I love it coming around this time of year! Although I’m totally devoted to Caribou Coffee, they just don’t compare with this drink.
Comment by Crystal December 22, 2007 @ 7:39 pmFavorite holiday treats:
Comment by Peggy December 23, 2007 @ 8:32 ampumpkin waffles Christmas morning
soy nog
my mother-in-laws vegan frosted sugar cookies
I came back here wondering if there would be a new post… and there is- yay!
My favorite holiday treats? Hmmmmm. I love baked puddings and gingerbread with hard lemon sauce. I love my mother-in-law’s (non-vegan) cookies- made of butter, butter recipe yellow cake, and … whatever they are, I wish I could veganize them.
Comment by bazu December 23, 2007 @ 10:23 pmMy favorite holiday treat is a new one. Your peanut butter chocolate shells. Oh My God! They’re incredible. I made them for the first time last week as a birthday gift for my brother. After one bite he exclaimed, “Wor Sos, you should open a bakery!” I told him I couldn’t take the credit. Kris, these are delicious. I have a potluck coming up next week and I’m bringing these gems for sure!
Comment by Vivacious Vegan December 24, 2007 @ 10:48 amWor Sos? My comments got cut off so I was typing them blindly. Apparently not so well. I meant Wow Sis!
Comment by Vivacious Vegan December 24, 2007 @ 10:49 amMy favorite Christmas treat is definately Trader Joe’s JO JO cookies!! And Hot chocolate almond milk!
Comment by Amy December 24, 2007 @ 6:12 pmIn my pre-vegan days I loved butter tarts (too bad I haven’t found a decent vegan recipe!) and I still love ginger cookies and mint chocolate chip cookies topped with candy canes!
